The Indy Twisters went to Columbus for their first time at the Mid-Am Special Hockey Invitational (MASHI) at Nationwide Arena. There were teams from all over that were there. The Steel City Icebergs (Pittsburgh), The Columbus Blue Jackets the Cleveland Rockin’ Wildcats, Black Swamp Ice Frogs (Toledo), Pittsburgh Emperors, the Beaver County Ice Sharks (Pittsburgh), the Motor City Stars (Detroit) and a team in their first season the Cincinnati Cyclones. All teams played 2 games and were matched by skill levels B & C.
The Twisters played the host Columbus Blue Jackets and were in for another grudge match. These teams have played multiple times and have always had a great match up. This time was no different. Next it was the Cleveland Rockin’ Wildcats and again another great game was had.
In the skills competition they had three skills. First was best shot with a celebration afterwards. Cameron Bowers for the Twisters competed in this and was a strong contender. The second was the superman slide for distance. Nathan Baker was our participant in this and also was a strong contender. In the fastest goalie skater Braiden Proctor was a very close second to a little goalie from the Rockin’ Wildcats. In my opinion there Was a little shove that gave the Wildcats the win but it was all in fun!
The Indy Twisters would like to thank the Columbus Blue Jackets as well as the NHL Blue Jackets for their hospitality over the weekend of the MASHI. That evening the entire tournament rosters and parents were hosted at Nationwide Arena for the Blue Jackets against the Buffalo Sabers. The entire Sky Deck was at our disposal and all the seats were full with standing room taken up to boot. The Twisters look forward to getting back to Columbus soon. A great event for all. Special thanks to USA Hockey for allowing ASHA programs to attend and to unite all the special needs teams on ice.
Looking forward to next year,
